Hoop Masters About Us
We are committed to the development of motivated, intelligent and well-rounded young athletes. We use responsibility to foster a sense of community and competitive basketball to enhance each child’s individual potential. We strive to:
- promote education on and off the court;
- increase self-confidence through skill acquisition;
- build a community in which parents, players, and coaches are responsible for each child’s success; and
- demonstrate that people of diverse backgrounds can accomplish greatness through teamwork.
History
Hoop Masters began in June of 1993 when Lauren Kelly and John Fischer began offering a weekly Skills Development Clinic for ages 8-18. The clinics focused on high level skill development often reserved for high school varsity players and beyond. Parents discovered quickly that Hoop Masters was very different than the typical recreation program and that their children were learning how to think as well as play basketball. Hoop Masters instructional style boosted self esteem. Because of the success of the early Skills Clinic, Hoop Masters quickly expanded its programming to include summer camps, individual workouts, traveling teams, coaches clinics, parent clinics, leagues and tournaments.
Program Philosophy
Hoop Masters has grown into a comprehensive year-round environment that teaches as much about life as it does about basketball.
Hoop Masters strives to produce well-rounded and motivated individuals who show responsibility for their community. Our athletes are held accountable for their behavior as a part of our organization, for their efforts at home and for their academic performance. Participants learn to be disciplined, hard-working, and fair. Hoop Masters sets the same high expectations for its female athletes as it does for its male participants. Above all else, Hoop Masters provides for its participants positive exposure to a diverse collection of cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
Our goal on the court is to teach our players the complete game so that they will be prepared for high school basketball and beyond. Individualized skills instruction is on going as is the development of the team concept. Higher level skills are broken down into age appropriate drills and coaches will often pose questions to the participants to help them analyze and understand the game.
Vision
The Hoop Masters organization continues to evolve into one of the most dynamic youth basketball programs in the state. We hope that your family will join us as we fulfill our vision!
Hoop Masters is a non-profit organization as defined by the IRS tax code, 501C-3.
